Baltimore’s historic dawn redwood tree destroyed by lightning, ‘literally exploded’

A 60-year-old dawn redwood tree, which was one of Baltimore’s most photographed trees, fell victim to lightning during Memorial Day weekend thunderstorms. The tree, located at the Cylburn Arboretum, “literally exploded” according to a nonprofit organization that partners with the city to care for the public gardens.
