Cragside’s Giant Redwood Named World’s Tallest Xmas Tree

A 44.7m (147ft) giant redwood at Cragside in Northumberland has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest living Christmas tree. The tree, planted in the 1860s and more than twice the height of the Angel of the North, was decorated with over 1,300 Christmas lights and two giant purple bows to meet Guinness requirements. Three people spent two days using a cherry-picker to carefully hang the lights, with each bulb meticulously checked and draped vertically to avoid damaging the tree.
