Firefighters Battle Blaze in One of World’s Tallest Fir Trees

Not Redwood news, although still interesting – Firefighters in Oregon are battling to save the Doerner Fir, one of the world’s tallest and oldest trees, which has been burning for three days. The 325ft tree has already lost around 50ft due to the blaze, potentially affecting its global ranking. Efforts to extinguish the fire include helicopter water drops and installing sprinklers, while officials consider unconventional methods such as scaffolding. Although the fire is mostly contained, heat remains inside the trunk, but authorities believe the entire tree is unlikely to burn down.
