Oakland Residents Oppose Golf Course’s Redwood Tree Removal Plan

Residents in East Oakland are rallying against the Sequoyah Country Club’s plan to remove 175 coast redwood trees as part of a golf course renovation aimed at water conservation. While the club argues the trees are in poor condition and will be replaced with 500 oaks and laurels, neighbours have launched a petition and cite city regulations protecting redwoods. The city’s Tree Services unit will soon decide on the proposal, with residents able to appeal, and both sides have indicated willingness to seek a compromise.
