The National Trust’s Cragside property in Northumberland was forced to turn away visitors arriving by car over the weekend due to overwhelming crowds flocking to see the world’s tallest bedded Christmas tree. The 44.7-metre giant redwood, adorned with over 1,300 lights and officially recognised by Guinness World Records, attracted unprecedented visitor numbers, causing car parks to reach capacity shortly after midday on 27 December. Whilst some visitors praised the “magic” experience, others complained about Disneyland-like queues and traffic chaos, prompting the National Trust to add extra late openings and advise visitors to check updates before travelling or use public transport where possible.
