Metasequoia glyptostroboides ‘Jack Frost’

Dawn Redwood

‘Jack Frost’ is an uncommon variegated cultivar of Metasequoia glyptostroboides. It was selected from a pan of seedlings by the Bucholz & Bucholz Nursery in Oregon in 1989. According to Auders & Spicer (2012), ‘Jack Frost’ is a vigorous cultivar characterized by bright green leaves with a white ‘frosted’ variegation.

However, Payton (2010) suggests that the variegation is more subtle, describing it as only ‘a hint’ of variegation. The rarity of variegated Dawn Redwoods makes ‘Jack Frost’ a notable and sought-after cultivar among collectors and enthusiasts.
