Metasequoia glyptostroboides ‘Miss Grace’

Dawn Redwood

This cultivar, introduced by the Bucholz & Bucholz Nursery in Oregon in 1998, is a witches’ broom selection of Metasequoia glyptostroboides. The Hillier Manual describes it as a “small, elegant cultivar” (Edwards & Marshall 2019), noting its compact habit and weeping branches.

The foliage of this cultivar is grey-green throughout the growing season and consistently turns a brilliant orange in autumn, adding to its ornamental appeal. However, Auders & Spicer (2012) advise that this cultivar must be staked to maintain its desired form. The combination of its compact size, weeping habit, and attractive foliage colours makes this an interesting and desirable selection for collectors and enthusiasts.
