Metasequoia glyptostroboides ‘Moerheim’

Dawn Redwood

‘Moerheim’ is a cultivar of Metasequoia glyptostroboides that was selected in the Netherlands from an original tree growing at the Belmonte Arboretum. This parent tree was grown from seed received from the Arnold Arboretum in 1948. According to Auders & Spicer (2012), ‘Moerheim’ develops into a columnar tree with upright branches, although they do not go as far as to describe it as fully fastigiate.

The upright growth habit of ‘Moerheim’ sets it apart from the more broadly pyramidal form of the typical species, making it an attractive option for landscapes where a more vertical accent is desired.
