Sequoia sempervirens ‘Mt Loma Prieta Spike’

Coast Redwood

‘Mt Loma Prieta Spike’ is a distinctive cultivar of Sequoia sempervirens known for its extremely narrow, spiky form. It develops into a tall, slender tree with drooping branches that remain close to the trunk, resulting in a narrow canopy spread. After ten years, it can reach 4.5 m in height with a canopy width of just 1.2 m, resembling the proportions of a Serbian Spruce (Picea omorika). This cultivar has been available in the North American nursery trade since at least 2008 (Auders & Spicer 2012).
