Sequoiadendron giganteum ‘Holmesii’

Giant Redwood

‘Holmesii’ is a cultivar that was selected before 1891 at the Holmes Nursery in the United Kingdom. It was chosen for its compact and neatly columnar growth habit, which likely set it apart from the more broadly pyramidal form of the typical species. The compact and columnar characteristics of ‘Holmesii’ would have made it an attractive option for landscapes with limited space or for those seeking a more formal, architectural appearance.

However, according to Auders & Spicer (2012), it is probable that this cultivar is no longer in cultivation.
