Sequoiadendron giganteum ‘Strictum’

Giant Redwood

Strictum’ is a Sequoiadendron cultivar raised before 1868 at the Sénéclauze Nursery in France. It is characterized by a columnar growth habit, very short and crowded branches, and short, thick leaves (Auders & Spicer 2012). This compact, upright form makes ‘Strictum’ a suitable choice for gardens and landscapes where a narrow, vertical accent is desired. It is worth noting that ‘Strictum’ is sometimes considered synonymous with another cultivar, ‘Pyramidale’, and further research may be needed to clarify their distinct characteristics.
