Residents rally to save redwood in Palo Alto
A large coast redwood tree in Palo Alto, California, is slated for removal, causing concern among local residents. The tree, located near Emerson Street and Rinconada Avenue, is approximately 70 feet tall with a 96-inch diameter. The property owner, Ying Wei, has been granted a permit to remove the tree due to foundational damage to her home.
Neighbors, including long-time resident Kathryn Akatiff and her daughter Mary Cudahy, are opposing the removal, citing the tree’s beauty, health, and symbolic importance to the city. They’ve appealed the city’s decision, which will lead to a director’s hearing.
