Ribble Valley Council Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Giant Redwood Planting Initiative

To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Ribble Valley Council has launched an ambitious project to plant 50 giant Redwood trees from us across the borough. One of the chosen locations for this initiative is the picturesque Stirk House Hotel in Gisburn. These magnificent trees, known for their impressive height of up to 85 meters and longevity of thousands of years, will serve as living monuments to the council’s legacy. The Stirk House Hotel, with its 22-acre estate featuring colourful gardens, an ancient forest, and a nature trail, provides an ideal setting for one of these saplings. While currently small, this Redwood will grow to become a towering natural wonder for future generations to admire. Dave Hewitt, Ribble Valley Borough Countryside Officer, highlights the environmental significance of Redwoods, noting their capacity to store hundreds of tonnes of carbon through sequestration, contributing to the fight against climate change.
