Ribble Valley Redwood tree planting battles climate change

To commemorate Ribble Valley Council’s 50th anniversary and combat climate change, a tree planting initiative is underway across the borough. Two “golden groves” of five Giant Redwood trees each were planted at Edisford in Clitheroe and St John’s Playing Fields in Longridge, with an additional 40 trees being planted in various parishes, including the farm of Ribble Valley Mayor Cllr Louise Edge. These trees, supplied by ourselves known for their exceptional carbon sequestration capabilities, can store more carbon than a hectare of woodland and 250 times more than the average tree, potentially offsetting the lifetime carbon footprint of around 50 residents. The council encourages more parishes to join the effort by contacting the countryside officer.
