The Silver Ghost Coast Redwood – Sequoia sempervirens ‘Silver Ghost’ is a remarkable variety that brings something special to any garden. This redwood stands out thanks to its beautiful silver-green leaves and unique silver bark, which creates a lovely contrast with the usual green and reddish-brown colours you see on most redwoods.
The ‘Silver Ghost’ has quite a magical quality in gardens. Its silver-green needles catch the light beautifully, giving off a gentle shimmer that adds real elegance to any space. The unusual colour of the foliage works perfectly with the smooth, silver bark, which gives the tree its ghostly look.
This variety shares many of the qualities of other coast redwoods, such as fast growth and the ability to reach great heights, but it is chosen mainly for its special colouring. It’s perfect for gardeners who want to create a bold feature or add interesting contrast to their planting.
The ‘Silver Ghost’ might look unusual, but it’s quite easy to care for and works well in different soil types. It does well in full sun or partial shade and handles both coastal and inland spots, making it suitable for gardens across different areas.
The tree develops a strong, upright shape with a pyramid form as it matures, reaching great heights and adding impressive vertical appeal. Its quick growth combined with that distinctive colouring makes ‘Silver Ghost’ an outstanding choice for anyone wanting to create a really striking garden centrepiece.
